Consultation
Book a consultation
Start with a short description of the decision, dispute, or deadline. We will check conflicts, identify the right next step, and tell you what records to bring to the conversation.
Before you send anything
Please do not send Social Security numbers, account passwords, full medical files, privileged business records, or other highly sensitive material through the general website form. A short description is enough for the initial review.
What helps us understand the matter
- Your name and best contact information.
- The names of the other people or organizations involved, for a conflicts check.
- The type of matter and the decision you need to make.
- Any hearing, filing, closing, response, or other deadline you already know about.
Submitting a form does not create an attorney-client relationship and does not mean the firm has agreed to protect a deadline. Representation begins only after conflicts are cleared, the firm accepts the matter, and an engagement agreement is signed.
If the issue is urgent or a deadline may be close, call (312) 257-2260.
What the consultation is for
The first legal conversation should produce clarity. We want to understand the objective, identify the documents and facts that control the issue, surface any deadline, and decide whether the matter fits the firm. We may be able to explain the next step immediately, or we may need to review records before offering a view. A careful answer is more useful than a fast answer built on incomplete facts.
For litigation matters, we will want to know what happened, what evidence exists, who the witnesses are, and what has already been communicated to insurers or opposing parties. For immigration matters, we will focus on the procedural posture, prior filings, dates, travel, status history, and the notice or benefit at issue. For business and healthcare matters, we will focus on the operation behind the legal question, because a contract or compliance rule only works if it matches the workflow.
If the firm can take the matter, the engagement terms are provided in writing. Until they are signed, no attorney-client relationship has been formed. If we cannot take the matter, we will not pretend otherwise. Where appropriate, we may suggest that you seek another lawyer promptly, especially if a deadline is approaching.
A consultation is also a chance for you to evaluate the fit. Ask who will handle the work, how decisions will be communicated, what information the lawyer still needs, and what would cause the strategy to change. A useful first meeting should leave both sides with a clear understanding of the next step.
The short form · 90 seconds
A few sentences is all we need for now. After a conflicts check, we'll send a fuller questionnaire if your matter calls for one.
